Vauxhall triumphing in Co2 stakes


The new Vauxhall Astra debuted at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show with the promise of outstanding quality, cut-throat pricing and competitive CO2 levels. With annual vehicle excise duty rates for cars based on their CO2 emissions and type of fuel used, this initiative by Vauxhall is more relevant to today’s economising motorist than ever before.

 

Reducing Car Tax by Co2

 

Compared to the current SRi 1.8-litre petrol model, the new cutting-edge SRi 1.4i Turbo, maintains an output of 140PS, yet reduces C02 emissions by 18 per cent so benefiting by several reduced tax bands. Additionally the standard equipment now includes a central armrest, active head restraints and an electronic parking brake.

 

Regarding the diesels, the new and more powerful Exclusiv 1.7 CDTi 110PS, complete with more standard features, drops one VED band, thanks to a 11g/km reduction in C02 emissions, compared to the current Life 1.7 CDTi 100PS.

New Insignia among the best selling fleet cars


Vauxhall sold 13,404 new Insignia to the fleet sector, between January and June 2009, making it the 7th best selling fleet car in that period.

Additionally it fared very well in the Euro NCAP tests with all models achieving the maximum 5 Star rating for safety.

 

However the good news does not stop there. The Vauxhall Insignia has taken the honours as 2009 European Car of the Year, polling a remarkable 321 votes.  This was one of the hardest-fought contests in recent years however the panel of judges from 23 European countries voted the Insignia first, with the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Golf coming in second and third respectively.
