We all know how successful the Vauxhall Astra has been, but now we know why. It’s all about quality and innovation – People truly want to drive it! The Astra range has always been sought after and the latest generation is no exception with its audacious silhouette and first-class driving experience the legend continues to evolve.
The new Vauxhall Astra debuted at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show with the promise of outstanding quality, cut-throat pricing and competitive CO2 levels. With annual vehicle excise duty rates for cars based on their CO2 emissions and type of fuel used, this initiative by Vauxhall is more relevant to today’s economising motorist than ever before.
Compared to the current SRi 1.8-litre petrol model, the new cutting-edge SRi 1.4i Turbo, maintains an output of 140PS, yet reduces C02 emissions by 18 per cent so benefiting by several reduced tax bands. Additionally the standard equipment now includes a central armrest, active head restraints and an electronic parking brake.
Regarding the diesels, the new and more powerful Exclusiv 1.7 CDTi 110PS, complete with more standard features, drops one VED band, thanks to a 11g/km reduction in C02 emissions, compared to the current Life 1.7 CDTi 100PS.
With sporty stylishness, inside and out, and superior technological advancements, the eagerly awaited all new Vauxhall Astra is sure to be a roaring success.
Standard safety features like ABS & ESP are complemented by innovations such as advanced Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL+). On the road ahead, darker patches are detected by the Bi-xenon headlights and consequently, they adjust their beams to illuminate these spots.
Supporting the Astra’s secure 4.4 metre length body is an all-new chassis with a 71 millimetre longer wheelbase, benefiting the driver, the passengers and any cargo.
This 5-door hatchback’s vibrant performance will be further heightened by Vauxhall’s smart FlexRide system, a scarcity in this car type. The chassis-control system responds to changing road situations and offers the driver the choice of three damper settings: Standard mode, Sport mode – for a more vibrantly energetic drive, and Tour mode – for a more even, peaceful and calmer drive.
The first few photos have been released; or rather paparazzi’ed of the new Vauxhall Astra Hatch. The first noticeable difference is the ‘chunkier’ body and premium styling to the whole car. That said it’s not just had a make over, it has a whole new chassis and inherits many of the design features found on the Insignia. It also has some very high end optional extras like the unique damper settings – standard, sport and tour and the latest generation Adaptive Forward Lighting, featuring bi-xenon lights that change intensity and focus to suit road conditions. The model is first being rolled out as a 5-door hatchback, but if it proves a hit then the model could be transferred to launch a new Vauxhall Astravan and possibly a Twintop convertible.
